Specification

For more than Four decades, we have lived and breathed wood — walking log yards before sunrise, studying grain patterns under natural light, and matching veneer by hand. That experience has shaped one truth:

Every remarkable veneer project begins with remarkable specifications.

Sawn Walnut Boards

Wood is natural, expressive, and wonderfully unpredictable. The better the detail you provide, the more precisely we translate your vision into veneer that performs, lasts, and inspires.

Below is our refined guide — a roadmap built from decades of craftsmanship, global sourcing, and thousands of successful architectural and manufacturing projects.

01.

Begin With the Purpose of Your Project

Tell us where the veneer will live so we can align the material to the performance requirements:

  • Wall panels & millwork
  • Doors
  • Cabinetry & fine furniture
  • Acoustic panels
  • Hospitality, residential, or commercial environments
  • High-traffic vs. decorative surfaces

Knowing the application helps us recommend the right species, cut, match, and finish.

Required application details:

  • Finished panel dimensions
  • Net veneer yield needed
  • Total square footage (include your typical waste factor; 2:1 or 3:1 depending on match requirements)
  • Any continuity across multiple rooms or elevations
02.

Selecting the Right Species

We help you choose from hundreds of options, including:

  • North American hardwoods
  • Figure-rich logs and architectural-grade selections
  • Custom-dyed or engineered veneers

If the look you’re imagining is uncommon for a species, let us know — we will investigate log availability on your behalf.

03.

Choosing the Cut

The cut determines the story the grain will tell:

  • Flat Cut – cathedral grain with sweeping movement
  • Quarter Cut – straight, refined, architectural lines
  • Rift Cut – tight, vertical grain for clean modern designs
  • Rotary & End Cuts – dramatic, uninterrupted visuals
  • Specialty Cuts – burl, crotch, block-mottled, fiddleback, quilted, and custom selections

Not all cuts are available in every species or log size — we guide you through realistic, project-ready options.

04.

Defining the Appearance

From minimalist to expressive, appearance choices steer the visual tone:

Figure

  • Fiddleback
  • Block-mottle
  • Curly
  • Birdseye
  • Burl
  • Crotch
  • Other rare formations
05.

Log Length, Yield & Availability

We source globally, so availability varies — but we provide realistic guidelines early:

  • Maximum raw veneer length: up to 17 feet
  • Common lengths: 10–12 feet
  • Panel presses often max at 10 feet
  • Typical substrate sizes: 8–10 feet

If your project needs extra-long or continuous matching, we can secure logs specifically for that requirement.

06.

Selecting & Securing the Log

The heart of any premium veneer project is the log itself.
We offer:

  • Raw hand samples
  • Finished samples
  • Live, in-person log inspections
  • Digital or video walkthroughs of log sets

Once you choose a log, we reserve it exclusively for your project. Early selection ensures the best match, consistency, and availability.

07.

Specialty Veneers & Sustainability

If your project has certification or material requirements, we offer options including:

  • FSC®-certified veneer
  • Custom treatments and finishes
08.
