Birch is a strong, fine‑grained hardwood valued for its clean appearance, versatility, and affordability. It’s widely used in cabinetry, furniture, plywood, and interior projects because it machines well when the grain is straight and takes paint or stain evenly.

Birch typically comes from yellow birch (Betula alleghaniensis) or related North American birch species. It has a straight, even grain, a fine texture, and a light cream-to-reddish-brown color. The wood is heavy and strong, comparable in weight to red oak.

Some boards show dramatic figure—known as flame birch—which is prized for decorative work.
